Pay before you pump to avoid a $75 hold
Pay-at-the-pump transactions automatically place a $75 hold on your account until the settlement occurs. This period of time may take twenty four to forty-eight hours, where after the $75 is refunded and the actual purchase amount is applied. This is a MasterCard® regulation which takes place on every MasterCard product. In order to avoid the $75 pre-authorization charge, simply pay before you pump in the store.

I don’t like this because what if you don’t have $75 on your card and what if you put in more than you need for gas? They won’t give the difference back

If you simply go inside and prepay for your gas rather than paying at the pump, you will not have a $75 temporary hold put on your card.
